Mastering Chess Exchanges Breaking down the mystery of exchanges few books have dealt with the topic of exchanges in chess, leaving this important part of chess strategy a mystery to most.
In Mastering Chess Exchanges, grandmasters Aagaard and Castellanos break down the topic into crystal-clear themes, including piece preferences, tension, weaknesses, colour complexes, king
safety and endgames, illustrating the concepts with illuminating examples.
Breaking down the mystery of exchanges
Then the reader is given a chance to turn understanding into skill, with 365 instructive exercises, featuring a novel, multiple-choice format designed to focus attention on possible exchanges.
Mastering Chess Exchanges
After finishing the Grandmaster Preparation series in 2017, I decided that I would take a few years off from writing books. What had started as a quick idea to monetise exercises I had collected
for Boris Gelfand to use as training material in 2009-2013, became a serious series of improvement books with positive mentions and translations into many languages.
Jacob Aagaard
It is not a major secret that the idea for the books came from watching a poor cash flow forecast for Quality Chess in 2011 and the knowledge that the publishers do not have to pay the author
royalties, when the author is one of the publishers. But when the series was finished, I felt I had inadvertently written something of value. Especially the last volume, Thinking Inside the Box,
came out exactly as I wanted it.
Renier Castellanos
IM Kostya Kavutskiy of ChessDojo named it his favourite book of the 21st century on a stream and many others had told me they found it helpful, so I am possibly not entirely misguided. So the
decision to let the series exist on its own for a while, not to be in competition with new books from the same author, came naturally.
Mastering Chess Exchanges
Jacob Aagaard is one of the top chess trainers in the world and the author of many chess books. A generation of grandmasters have been raised on his training material.
